REGINA – Shanon Zachidniak has entered the race to replace retiring Regina City Councillor Mike O’Donnell in Ward 8.
“Many of the decisions that most impact our daily lives occur at the municipal-level,” said Zachidniak. “As we face these uncertain times, we need strong local leadership now more than ever. I am committed to building a city that is sustainable, inclusive, affordable, safe and vibrant.”
Zachidniak is known around Regina as the founder of EnviroCollective, a Regina environmental organization she started in 2018 for people to collaborate on local solutions to the climate crisis. Since that time, Zachidniak has proven herself as a formidable advocate – speaking at rallies and conferences, organizing numerous events, acting as a spokesperson in the media and presenting to city council and its committees.
Her work experience in Regina has included senior roles with several local community organizations, including: Wascana Solar Co-op, REACH and the Regina Farmers’ Market. A dedicated volunteer, she has served on the board of many community organizations and was a co-founder of Food Regina. In addition to her efforts with EnviroCollective, where she serves as co-chair, she is the Vice President of Wascana Solar Co-op.
Zachidniak lives in Northwest Regina with her husband, John, sons Wylie and Ivan (ages 6 and 3) and their dog Penny. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies and a Bachelor’s in Journalism.
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Councillor Mike O’Donnell for his many years of service and all his work for the residents of Ward 8 and the entire city of Regina,” added Zachidniak.
The municipal election is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 9, 2020.
